POWDERHORN & HUNTING POUCH CLASS

POWDERHORN & HUNTING POUCH CLASS

Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 8:00 - 5:00

OVERVIEW:
Students will learn a brief overview of history of powderhorns and hunting pouchs and their making. Students will leave the class with a powderhorn constructed with their own hands.

This class will be free to eight students (ages 12-15) slected from a lottery of applicants. Pizza lunch will be provided.

PRE-REQUISITE:
Students must be able to perform the following tasks: handling very sharp blades, cutting, carving, and sewing. Students are expected to wear clothing appropriate for shop work (i.e.: short sleeves, closed-toe footwear). Parental approval is required.

PRODUCT:
All students will make a powderhorn and hunting pouch based upon extant late-1800s western Appalachian examples. The powderhorn will include a lathe-turned base plug (provided) and hand-carved spout. The hunting pouch will consist of a one-piece pouch, strap, and buckle. The powderhorn will be attached to the hunting pouch.

 CLASS STRUCTURE:
This will be a 1-day class (Saturday, 8:00- 5:00) for up to eight students. The class will consist of two modules constructed of a brief classroom setting followed by hands-on shop application. Students will be provided materials and lunch. Necessary tools will be available for use.

 IMPORTANT NOTICE: Class will begin at 8:00 sharp. Please arrive early.
